It would seem that most homes have at least one gamer, even if it is just on phones. But my family is nothing but gamers. We have every kind of system and even a computer gamer. Now we are not necessarily up to date on the latest systems, but it doesn’t stop a dedicated gamer. Ha. My kiddos and their friends would come over and play games. And everyone would be in their respective rooms, but all of the yelling and the game noise was a bit much. So headsets became a must. Then they all decided to play the same game all through the house. Then it became a yell fest again but all for one game! But it caused us to develop what we call GAME DAY.
GAME DAY
Game day is one day a month that is set up for all the kiddos and friends to come over for a gamer party. One game is chosen and the invites go out on digital messaging on what ever social or game platform they reside in. The house is then set up for the party.
They have come up with so many ideas, in which we haven’t done them all yet. Here are some things we have done plus their new ideas.
- Game pillows and blankets brought by everyone.
- Names of teams and members put on each door.
- A score board (dry erase) is created and placed in the hallway keeping score between each game day.
- Everyone has to bring headsets, controllers and systems if so deemed.
- Party is held during intermission, along with bathroom and smoking breaks.
- And the new idea is having some game day t-shirts and caps made.
PARTY TIME
The dining room and hallway are decorated for Game Day with game music playing in the back ground. Up and down the hallway are posters and game plaques depicting favorite games and quotes. On the outside of the front door is a sign saying Let’s Play. On the inside of the door as they leave is a sign that says Game Over. In the dining room are balloons every where along with a decorated table full of food. I want to buy some neon lights that say game phrases to put up in the dining room. A gamer table cloth, paper plates, and colorful utensils. Everyone has a to go cup that is gamer oriented that they just refill and keep with them. No open containers in the rooms.
FOOD
This has been typically finger foods in gamer themed containers of all sorts. We are researching to find more gamer themed foods and recipes besides the desserts. I did come across some neat looking vegetable and cracker trays decorated like game characters. I am going to rack my brain for some creative ideas and see what other creatives have come up with. Of course cupcakes and cookies are easy but my family doesn’t do much of those. So they don’t get eaten. We found a lot of candies that look neat. I also decorate the table with toy game figures, old controllers, batteries, cords etc. They get a kick out of it. Not as much as the yell fest, but all in good fun.
Now if Mom could get as good at games as all my kiddos, then that would be a miracle. Ha
